The Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line faced yet another disruption at the start of the new year, causing inconvenience to commuters on Monday morning. The trouble surfaced on the first busy weekday as metro services were affected for a considerable period between Tollygunge and Shahid Khudiram due to a mechanical fault in an empty rake.
According to metro sources, the issue began early in the morning when an empty rake being turned around at Kavi Subhash suddenly broke down. This led to disruptions in metro services running from Shahid Khudiram towards Dakshineswar. As a result, normal operations could not be maintained during peak morning hours.

To manage the situation, metro authorities ran services on a truncated route. Trains operated on both the up and down lines only between Dakshineswar and Tollygunge, leaving the southern stretch temporarily out of service. Many passengers who reached metro stations around 7 am, hoping to catch trains for their daily commute, were left stranded or delayed.
Despite the quick response, the incident once again highlighted recurring operational issues on the Blue Line. For regular commuters, the disruption added to the growing frustration, especially during early morning peak hours when metro services are crucial for office-goers and students alike.
