Police arrested two more people in connection with the rape of a minor at the abandoned quarters of the closed Hindmotor factory in Hooghly. They were arrested from the Uttarpara police station area on Tuesday. Police said the two arrested individuals were previously acquainted with the main accused, Dipankar Adhikari.

According to police and local sources, a 16-year-old minor had gone to visit the closed Hindmotor factory with a friend last Thursday. There, Dipankar, a resident of Uttarpara, allegedly raped her after introducing himself as a civic volunteer. Police arrested Dipankar based on a complaint filed by the victim's family. The minor's friend was also taken into custody. On this day, police arrested Nilesh Chowdhury and Biswajit Bera. They will be produced in the Serampore court tomorrow.
Political row emerges over accused’s identity
Regarding this matter, ACP Ali Raja of Chandannagar Commissionerate said that two more people have been arrested from the Uttarpara police station area in connection with the Hindmotor incident. Both were previously acquainted with Dipankar. Both will be sent to court, and an application for police remand will be submitted.

Meanwhile, political controversy has erupted over the Hindmotor incident. BJP and CPM have alleged that the arrested Dipankar used to extort money in the area by introducing himself as a Trinamool youth leader. But police are trying to shield him despite knowing everything. However, Trinamool has clearly stated that Dipankar is not a member of the party.
