In a heartwarming incident from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, a traffic police officer returned a bag containing nearly Rs 1 lakh to its rightful owner after finding it on a road in Jangipur. While locals have praised his honesty, the officer said he was simply doing his duty.

The incident involved a businessman, Ibrahim Sheikh, who had left home carrying nearly one lakh rupees to repay a moneylender. The cash was kept in a black carry bag. On Sunday morning, while crossing a bridge in Jangipur, the bag accidentally slipped from his pocket without him noticing. However, when he did realise, he was virtually thunderstruck. Unable to understand what to do, he was in a state of despair.

At the same time, traffic police officer Sabir Sheikh was on his way to duty when he noticed the unattended carry bag lying in the middle of the bridge. Suspicious, he checked the bag and found it filled with Rs 500 notes amounting to nearly one lakh rupees. He immediately informed a senior traffic police officer in Jangipur, and efforts were launched to trace the owner. Within a short time, the businessman was identified and asked to come to the police station.

Ibrahim Sheikh, who had almost lost hope of recovering the money, was relieved to get it back after providing valid proof. He expressed his gratitude to the police for their honesty.

Local residents also appreciated the officer’s actions. Jani Sheikh, a member of the Raghunathganj Business Association, said, “This action by the police sets an example for society.”
