Today, December 11, is the last day of the first phase of intensive revision of the voter list in Bengal. The Election Commission had already announced that the enumeration form fill-up work must be completed by midnight. Meanwhile, on Thursday itself, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced from a meeting in Krishnanagar, Nadia, that she has not filled out the enumeration form.

From that day's meeting, the Chief Minister not only mentioned not filling out her own form but also explained the reason. Mamata said, "Listen, I still haven't filled out the form. Why haven't I? I was a Central Minister three times. I became an MP seven times. And with your blessings and good wishes, I also became Chief Minister three times. Do I have to prove today whether I am a citizen of India or not? It's much better to die than this."

She also vented her anger about SIR from that day's meeting. Mamata's sarcasm, "I have to prove to those rioters whether I am a citizen of the country or not. They are conducting SIR just two months before the elections with such hunger for votes!"

So what now?

Experts say that according to Election Commission rules, the Chief Minister is an elected public representative. She is a 'marked elector'. Her name is already registered in the voter list. So there is no problem if she doesn't fill out the form. Names of people holding positions like the state's Chief Minister, the country's Prime Minister, get automatically registered.

It may be noted that at the beginning of the SIR phase, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on her X handle that until all the people of the entire state fill out the enumeration form, she too will not fill out the form. However, she has repeatedly reminded the people of Bengal to fill out the enumeration form.

Although she has repeatedly warned that she will not let it go if anyone's name is excluded. She has even called upon the women of Bengal to take up kitchen utensils and fight if their names are excluded.
