West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday alleged that her helicopter was deliberately held up on the runway for nearly 30 minutes, accusing the BJP of interfering with her travel schedule.

Addressing a public meeting in Khardah, Banerjee said her arrival was delayed despite leaving on time, claiming that multiple aircraft were allowed to land while her helicopter remained grounded.

She said she was delayed in reaching Khardah for several reasons. She had left much earlier, but she was made to wait on the runway for half an hour. Mamata Banerjee further added that they kept allowing other planes to land one after another.

The Trinamool Congress chief further alleged that similar treatment was meted out to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, whose helicopter was reportedly delayed by 40 minutes a day earlier.

Banerjee claimed that such incidents reflect a pattern of obstruction. “This is how they treat us. There are BJP people at the airport. They don’t act even if there is an accident, but they make sure to delay us as much as possible,” she added.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, with both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP intensifying their campaigns across the state.

No immediate response from the BJP was available at the time of filing this report.
