$2 million cannabis haul seized in Canada, five Indian-origin men charged

Five Indian-origin men have been charged in Canada after police recovered a stolen trailer carrying cannabis products valued at more than $2 million in Mississauga.

The seizure took place on April 15, when officers from the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit were patrolling near McLaughlin Road and Highway 401, reported Hindustan Times. During the patrol, they located a trailer that had been reported stolen from the Niagara Region.

The trailer was believed to be transporting a large shipment of cannabis products intended for delivery to licensed dispensaries.

Arrests made at the scene

Police identified several men in the vicinity who were linked to the stolen trailer, according to reports. All five suspects were arrested at the scene.

During searches, officers also recovered two firearms. Authorities have not released further details about the weapons.

Accused identified

The individuals charged have been identified as 21-year-old Manveer Singh, 32-year-old Sarbjeet Singh, 21-year-old Dilkhab Singh, 25-year-old Karan Kumar and 23-year-old Jaiskavan Malhi.

Police said that four of the accused are from Brampton, while Kumar is from Hamilton.

The group faces a total of 33 charges combined. These include theft over $5,000 involving a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, as well as firearm-related offences.

Investigators have indicated that the case may involve additional victims.

Police seek more information

Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. They have also asked members of the public to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously if they have relevant details.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the theft and recovery of the trailer.
