The much-awaited sequel of the 2006 cult classic film The Devil Wears Prada 2 has had an excellent box office performance in many countries, proving the continued popularity of its two major actors, Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
As per a report published in Deadline, the movie collected $33 million on Friday at the US box office from 4,150 theaters with previews included. Its opening weekend box office collection is expected to reach between $75 million to $80 million due to a high weekend turnout.

Internationally, the movie's sequel has raked in $50.5 million with expectations of making around $180 million globally.
Strong overseas performance boosts global total
With the backing of 20th Century Studios, the movie opened across 35 countries abroad on Thursday and was quickly made available in 45 countries. After only two days, it managed to rake in $40.5 million from the international markets.

Among individual markets:
Italy leads with $5.9 million
Brazil follows at $3.2 million
Germany contributes $3.1 million
Mexico adds $3 million
Australia and France bring in $2.7 million each
China, Korea, Spain, and Argentina also delivered steady numbers, contributing to the strong overseas total.
Faces competition from Michael biopic
At the domestic box office, the film faces competition from Lionsgate’s Michael, a biopic on Michael Jackson starring Jaafar Jackson.
Now in its second weekend, Michael is expected to earn around $45 million, taking its cumulative total close to $175 million, despite a projected drop from its previous weekend.

India box office shows steady growth
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has opened with solid figures in India. According to movie tracking website Sacnilk,
₹1.70 crore was earned from paid screenings on April 30.
₹3.80 crore was collected on Day 1
Total net earnings in India were ₹5.50 crore.
Gross collection figure was ₹6.57 crore.
The movie achieved an overall occupancy of 36% through 1,644 shows, registering a 123.5% increase in earnings on Day 1 compared to the previews.
