Commuters travelling between Kolkata and Howrah on Sunday will need to plan alternate routes, as Vidyasagar Setu will remain closed to traffic for 16 hours to facilitate major repair and rehabilitation work.
The bridge will be shut from 5 am to 9 pm on Sunday, during which movement of all types of vehicles will be restricted on the bridge as well as its approach ramps.
Repair and rehabilitation work underway
The work is being carried out by the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) as part of an ongoing maintenance programme for the cable-stayed bridge.

Small and heavy vehicles travelling via Circular Garden Reach Road will be diverted from Hastings Crossing through St George's Gate Road and Strand Road.
