Iran and tensions in the Middle East rose sharply after Iran launched ballistic missiles toward Israel, forcing the entire country into emergency mode. Israel’s Home Front Command app, used to warn citizens of incoming attacks, turned completely red, signalling active missile threats across multiple regions. Sirens echoed in cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as people rushed to bomb shelters.

The missile attack came after reports that Israel, along with the United States, carried out strikes on Iranian military targets. While officials have not disclosed full details of the earlier operation, the exchange marks a serious escalation between the long-standing rivals.

Air defence systems respond, public told to stay indoors

"At this time, the Israeli Air Force is operating to intercept and strike threats where necessary to remove the threat," the military says.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States has begun "major combat operations in Iran" after Israel launched strikes. He said that the objective of the attack is to "defend the American people" by "eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime".

Authorities advised residents to remain inside protected spaces until further notice. Schools and public events were temporarily suspended as a safety measure, and emergency services were put on standby. Early reports suggested that several missiles were successfully intercepted, though officials were still assessing any damage.

Rising fears of wider conflict

Iranian officials described the missile launch as a response to what they called aggression against their territory. They also signalled that further action could follow if attacks continue.

World leaders have urged both sides to exercise restraint, warning that continued retaliation could trigger a broader regional conflict. For now, civilians on both sides remain on edge as the situation continues to unfold.
