According to AFP, Mohammadi was also sentenced to one and a half years in prison for propaganda activities against the government. Her lawyer said she will be exiled for two years to Khosf city in South Khorasan province. Under Iranian law, both punishments will run concurrently.

Mostafa Nili expressed hope that Mohammadi may be intermittently released due to her deteriorating physical condition. He also noted that the court’s verdict is not final and can be appealed.

Fight continues from prison

Mohammadi, 53, has been a long-time human rights activist, speaking against the death penalty and mandatory dress codes for women. She has spent most of the past decade in prison and has been unable to meet her twin children in Paris.

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, Mohammadi could not personally receive the award; her son accepted it on her behalf. In December 2024, she was briefly released for medical treatment due to her health. Recently, after being released, she publicly denounced Iran’s government, asserting that imprisonment would not silence her activism.
