'Humanity could be the only intelligent life and I’m an alien among us', says Elon Musk

The SpaceX CEO believes there is almost certainly no intelligent life beyond earth and 'we may need to treat life and consciousness as incredibly rare and perhaps it might only be us'

Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed that he is an extraterrestrial being and further reiterated this statement at a recent World Economic Forum event on Thursday. However, Elon Musk believes that there is almost certainly no intelligent life beyond earth.

During his discussion in Davos, Switzerland, with Larry Fink, the interim chair of the World Economic Forum, and CEO of BlackRock, Musk stated that he uses this belief as a frame of reference for his business ideas and $600 billion of wealth. Musk noted that because there is only a very slight chance of life existing outside of earth, the urgency surrounding the necessity of preserving humanity is greatly increased.

Are there aliens among us?

"I often get the question, 'are there aliens among us?' And I'll say that I am one," Musk stated and added that no one believes him when he says this, making it unclear if the statement was meant to be taken seriously or if he was making a joke regarding his alien status.

"Or perhaps you are from the future," Fink joked to Musk, referencing Musk's previous remarks regarding being a 3,000-year-old time-travelling vampire.

"The most important point I want to make is that I believe we may need to treat life and consciousness as incredibly rare and perhaps it might only be us," Musk said.

"And if that's the case, then we must do everything in our power to make certain that the light of consciousness continues to exist," he added.

Musk created OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 to find ways to deal with the potential risks of technology and find solutions for the potential dangers of technology. He told Fink how he thought both Tesla and SpaceX's value at $1.4 trillion and $800 billion respectively, were products of that same core belief by creating a sustainable technology as well as "sustainable abundance".

Musk's vision

Musk affirmed his view of an environment where there will be an overabundance of humanoid robots and people will no longer need to work. He stated that with the advent of robotics and artificial intelligence, humans will no longer need to work for money.

Musk asserted that with robotics and artificial intelligence, "this is really the path to adundance for all." He said that people often talk about wanting to eliminate global poverty or to provide everyone with the highest possible standard of living. "I think the only way to do this is AI and robotics," he highlighted.

According to Musk, there could be billions of humanoid robots on the planet, more than there will ever be humans. Musk predicted these humanoid robots will perform tasks such as caring for children and elderly parents and expects there will be functional humanoid robot technology available to buy in the next couple of years.

Tesla's Optimus robots have faced challenges and consistently fallen behind schedule. Musk stated just this Tuesday that manufacturing for the bots, along with the Tesla Cybercab, would be 'agonisingly slow' before production eventually increased.
