The private residence of US Vice President JD Vance in Cincinnati came under attack late Sunday night. Reportedly, several windows were shattered, triggering an immediate security response from the US Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies.

The incident occurred at Vance’s East Walnut Hills home. Secret Service agents reached the property in the early hours of Monday, shortly after reports of damage emerged.

Following the incident, a suspect was detained at the scene, though officials have so far declined to share details about the individual or confirm whether formal charges have been filed, per local news outlet WCPO.

Authorities confirmed that the Vance family was not present at the residence when the incident took place. Preliminary investigations cited by CNN suggest that officials do not believe the suspect managed to enter the vice president’s home.

Law enforcement and Secret Service personnel were seen inside the premises following the incident. Footage from the scene showed officers combing the darkened area around the house with flashlights. At least four window panes were visibly broken, each bearing holes at their centres. Despite this, investigators have not yet clarified whether the damage was caused by projectiles, blunt force, or another method.

Officials are now examining whether the incident was a deliberate attack directed at JD Vance or his family, or an act of vandalism unrelated to his position. The US Secret Service is yet to issue an official statement.

Notably, roads surrounding Vance’s home had been closed for several days leading up to Sunday, with checkpoints set up and residents warned to expect a strong law enforcement presence, according to city officials.

JD Vance and his family moved into the Vice President’s official residence in Washington DC last January, but he continues to own and frequently visit his Cincinnati home. The two-story white house, built 157 years ago and valued at approximately $1.4 million.

We love the natural beauty, especially the old giant trees and the wildlife,” Vance stated.
