Social Security beneficiaries in the United States are scheduled to receive their payments for April 2026, following a staggered schedule, with payment dates depending on the beneficiaries’ birth dates.
According to a report by NewsNation, Social Security has a structured monthly schedule, with payments made throughout different weeks.
April 2026 payment schedule
In April 2026, Social Security retirement benefits are scheduled to be paid on the following dates:
Beneficiaries born between 1st and 10th – April 8, 2026

Beneficiaries born between 11th and 20th – April 15, 2026
Beneficiaries born between 21st and 31st – April 22, 2026
Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries, however, are scheduled to receive their benefits a week earlier, on April 1.
Beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, or those receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, are scheduled to receive their benefits on April 3.
COLA increase reflected in 2026 payments
The Social Security payments have increased slightly this year, thanks to the cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA. According to NewsNation, there has been a 2.8% increase, announced in October, which has increased the average monthly payments made to Social Security retirees by $56, increasing payments from $2,015 to $2,071.
The annual cost-of-living adjustment aims to help Social Security recipients keep up with inflation and increasing living costs.
What to do if your payment is delayed
According to the SSA, if Social Security payments are delayed, one should first check with their bank if there has been a problem. If there has been no issue from the bank’s end, then one should contact the Social Security Administration directly.

While payments will continue, there remains a worry about whether Social Security will be able to sustain payments in the future. According to a recent report by the Congressional Budget Office, Social Security’s trust fund will be depleted in 2032, earlier than previously thought.
While payments will continue, there will be a reduction in payments if this happens.
