Donald Trump has relieved Pam Bondi of her position, with reports indicating that she tried hard in a last-ditch effort to convince Trump not to fire her.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Pam Bondi pleaded Trump during a heated exchange at the White House for more time in her position. “She was unhappy and tried to change his mind,” said a source. The news was communicated to Pam Bondi just before Trump’s primetime speech on the Iran conflict.

Tensions behind the decision
Although Trump publicly lauded Bondi’s performance, there are reports suggesting that there were underlying issues within the administration. One such issue, according to the Daily Mail, is the administration’s dissatisfaction with Bondi due to Trump’s perceptions that she had divulged information regarding an FBI-related case to Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell.
Sources for the Daily Mail reported that there were underlying issues within the administration regarding Bondi’s alleged involvement in the case, especially due to her close association with Swalwell.
Bondi’s tenure also saw significant shifts within the Justice Department, including the removal of career officials and a stronger focus on immigration enforcement. She pursued legal action against several political figures, including James Comey and Letitia James, as reported by The Guardian.

Another point of friction was her handling of documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Conflicting public statements on the issue drew criticism and added to pressure within the administration.
Who takes charge now
Following Bondi’s removal, Trump announced that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche would serve as Acting Attorney General, describing him as a “talented and respected legal mind.”
Blanche has recently increased his public visibility and engagement with Trump’s political base. At the same time, Lee Zeldin, currently heading the Environmental Protection Agency, is being considered a leading contender for the permanent role.
