At the UNHRC 39th special session, which focused on the worsening human rights situation in Iran due to large protests, India voted against the resolution and joined a group of countries that opposed what they called a selective initiative, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The proposal's sponsors claimed that they wished to resolve what was considered a deteriorating human rights situation in Iran. It's also worth noting that only a minority of states voted against the proposal and many more chose to abstain. The final voting results showed 25 members supporting the proposal, whereas seven members voted against and 14 abstained.

Relations date back to hundreds of years
Earlier, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, representing the Supreme Leader of Iran, stated that the history of Iranian-Indian relations goes back many hundreds of years and even predates the emergence of Islam, adding that Indian philosophy had been studied in Iran for many centuries.
"The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran always insists on good relations and collaboration between Iran and India...I hope that in Chabahar they will work nicely," he said, referring to the role of India in the Chabahar Port which has been facing US sanctions.
"The history of the relationship and collaboration between Iran and India goes to 3,000 years ago, before the emergence of Islam. Even at that time, we were using philosophical books of India… Even at the university, we studied philosophical books of India; and in mathematics, astronomy, and medicine, we were also using your civilisation, your knowledge, and we always learned through our schools the relationship between Iran and India," Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi added.
