BSF jawan shot in North Tripura, Hindu village set ablaze in Bangladesh

A BSF jawan was shot and injured in Tripura's North district, while in Bangladesh, violence against Hindu minorities continued with a Hindu-majority village in Chittagong set ablaze amid ongoing unrest following recent political turmoil and killings.

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was shot in North Tripura's Maheshpur area in the Dharmanagar sub-division of the state. The injured soldier has been identified as Bipin Kumar (35). He is posted with the 97th Battalion of the BSF.

BSF jawan suffered two gunshot injuries

He suffered two gunshot injuries to the upper part of his left arm, near the shoulder. However, BSF authorities have not yet officially clarified the circumstances in which the firing took place, Tripura Chronicle reported.

After the incident, the injured jawan was quickly rescued and taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital. Dr. Prasun Bhattacharya said that BSF personnel brought in a jawan with two bullet injuries on his left shoulder. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was given initial treatment and then referred to the state's referral facility, GB Hospital, for advanced care, TC reported.

Hindu village set ablaze in Bangladesh

In another incident of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh, a Hindu-majority village was set ablaze, adding to the ongoing tensions in Bangladesh. The village is located in the Pashchim Banik Para area of Chittagong in Bangladesh.

It is being reported that residents were locked inside their homes before the huts were set on fire. The residents had to break through doors to escape. The farm animals present in the homes have been killed. As per one resident, as reported on News 18 Bangla, damages worth more than 10 lakh BDT have been incurred due to this arson.

Minorities under attack

Bangladesh has been on the cusp of anarchy, riots, and arson ever since Muhammad Yunus took charge after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Tension flared up more after the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Yunus loyalists and Bangladeshi leaders have been sending out warnings to India. The murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh has drawn international attention and condemnation. The burning of the village in Chittagong is another addition to the list of attacks on minorities after Hadi's death.
