Anarchy took over Bangladesh after 'Inquilab Mancha' spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was declared dead after being shot in Dhaka by assailants. The brunt of the protests, which quickly and eventually turned into riots, fell on media houses, cultural organisations, and common people alike.

Amid this ruckus, Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth from Bangladesh's Mymensingh district, was lynched and murdered, and his body was set on fire after allegations of blasphemy were levelled against him by some locals. The Muhammad Yunus administration has faced international condemnation following the gruesome murder of Das, after which ten people were booked for the brutal homicide, and the interim government of Bangladesh has promised to take full responsibility for Dipu's family.

What did Dipu Chandra Das's family say?

Dipu's mother, Shefali Rani, told Dainik Bhaskar English that she had informed him that there was nothing to eat at home, to which Dipu had replied that he would bring rice on his way back. Only later in the evening would they get to see a video on Facebook, where they saw that Dipu was being beaten and was then hanged from a tree. She said that he was initially attacked by people who worked with Dipu in the same factory, after which he was handed over to the mob. She further told Bhaskar English that her nephew was also attacked in the market the same day, and asserted that the government has left them to die.

Dipu's father, Rabi Lal Da,s had a similar story to tell. He told the outlet that his son's friend first informed them about the incident. After the Bhaluka police station turned them away, they went to another police station, when his phone rang, Dipu's friend informed him that his son was dead. He didn't open up much, as he revealed that they have been receiving threats. Dipu Das's brother Kartik Das said that Hindus are being killed every day in Bangladesh, and the allegations against his brother are baseless.

The death of Sharif Osman Hadi has left a trail of blood across Bangladesh. His death has been used as an excuse for unhindered violence, which led to the death of Dipu Chandra Das. His parents, wife, and siblings have received no real answers, nor have the minorities in Bangladesh, as to when the violence will stop.
