'How much more will you target him?': Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' leaked online before release, industry in shock

Tamil superstar Vijay's unreleased film 'Jana Nayagan' has been leaked online, triggering concern across the industry. Clips from the film first appeared on social media on Thursday night, and by Friday morning, full HD versions were reportedly circulating on piracy platforms.

The development is particularly striking as the film is yet to receive certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and has been awaiting clearance for nearly three months. The leak comes at a sensitive time, just ahead of Vijay's anticipated political entry linked to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Fans and trade express shock

The leak has drawn strong reactions from fans and industry insiders, many of whom described the situation as alarming. Cinema influencer Amutha Bharathi wrote, "A 400-500Crs film just got leaked overnight!! Toughest time for the Producer, distributor and the whole team. They should have been more cautious, as the film has gone into already serious troubles. Now the only & better way is to release JanaNayagan ASAP in the Theatres, if they got censor certificate."

Trade account Movies Singapore also flagged the scale of the leak, posting, "#JanaNayagan - SHOCKING!! The entire movie has been leaked in premium HD quality. It is already circulating among many people, and many scenes are now out on social media. Despite fast copyright actions, the situation may only worsen from here. An earliest possible theatrical release is the only way forward."

Despite appeals from fans to avoid sharing links, copies of the film continued to spread online.

Allegations of targeting Vijay

Several voices in the industry suggested the leak may not be accidental. Film producer G Dhananjheyan urged immediate legal action, stating, "@KvnProductions must move the court immediately and get all such links are removed and taken down before it’s too late and the film is watched by millions. Film business is becoming dangerous and highly unpredictable with these kind of dangers all around a film. How much more you guys will target #ThalapathyVijay ‘s last film. ???"

One wrote, "Jana Nayagan has been illegally leaked on social media. We know the excitement is REAL — but watching a pirated copy is NOT how we show love to our #Thalapathy.

The entire cast & crew worked YEARS for this. Every ticket sold = a direct support to Vijay's vision. Piracy = Betraying the very artist you claim to love. Real fans STAND UP, not steal.

Another wrote, "JanaNayagan got leaked on social media in HD quality really disappointing. We never supported and will never support any kind of leaks.Respect the effort,respect the cinema,& support the movie right way. Being a Vijay fan is not easy these days."

A fan account quoted by Hindustan Times also pointed to the timing, posting, "Thalapathy Vijay- They try to block your film… and just before the new release announcement, leaks start surfacing. That's what happens WHEN YOU'RE HUGE. Respect the cinema. Watch only the OFFICIAL trailer, don't share leaks."

Film caught in delays

Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju.

Originally slated for a January release, the political thriller has faced delays after missing certification timelines. The makers and Vijay have previously alleged that the delay may be linked to his political plans. As of now, there is no official word on a revised release date.
