Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday commissioned three indigenously built naval vessels and formally handed them over to the Indian Navy at Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port. The vessels, INS Dunagiri, INS Agray and INS Sanshodhak, have been built using indigenous technology at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE).
Highlighting India's growing focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing, the Prime Minister said the country's naval capabilities are being strengthened through homegrown technology and innovation.
'Naval strength is essential for a strong nation'
Addressing the gathering, Modi underlined the importance of maritime power in national security.
"A nation's strength cannot grow without naval power. The Navy is a key pillar of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. INS Dunagiri will enhance the capabilities of the Indian Navy," he said.
