Why are banks closed today?
The closure applies to public and private sector banks across the country. Since May 23 falls on the fourth Saturday, branch services such as cash deposits, cheque clearances and in-person banking transactions will not be available.
Customers are advised to plan branch visits accordingly, especially with another holiday scheduled tomorrow, May 24, due to Sunday.
Online banking services remain available
Even though bank branches are closed, digital banking services will continue without interruption. Customers can still access internet banking, mobile banking, ATMs and UPI-based services for transactions, bill payments and fund transfers.
Banks generally maintain online services during holidays to ensure customers can complete essential financial activities without visiting branches.
Next bank holiday in India
After today’s closure, the next bank holiday will be on Sunday, May 24. Banks in Tripura will also remain closed on May 26 on account of the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
