Millions of EPFO subscribers may soon access PF services on WhatsApp, signalling a faster, more convenient way to check balances, track claims and manage accounts on the go. The facility is expected to roll out within a month, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, while speaking to reporters in Delhi.

WhatsApp-based access to PF details

As per a report by The Hindu, once launched, EPFO members will be able to check their provident fund balance, view the last five transactions, and track claim status through WhatsApp. The system will rely on verification of the user’s registered mobile number linked with the Universal Account Number.

“If verified, simple ‘menu’ options will be presented to the member in the local language. The member can select from menu options, submit details or can click on replies to simple questions. The message is processed and is responded by an AI-driven chatbot directly or by searching through the EPFO database”, Hindu quoted a senior official as explaining the process.

UPI-based withdrawals in pipeline

Alongside WhatsApp services, the EPFO is preparing to introduce withdrawals through UPI payment gateways. According to the Minister, testing for this feature has already been completed.

“We have completed the testing of the facility where members can withdraw EPF (employees’ provident fund) through the use of the UPI payment gateway. The withdrawn amount will be directly transferred into the bank account of the member,” Mr Mandaviya added.

Drop in pending cases

The Minister also highlighted a reduction in litigation and consumer court cases, attributing it to initiatives such as the “Nidhi Aapke Nikat (NAN)” programme.

“The overall pendency of litigation cases has reduced from 31,036 cases as on April 1, 2025 to 27,639 cases as on April 1, 2026, reflecting a reduction of 3,397 cases. This marks the lowest ever level of litigation pendency in the EPFO,” Mr Mandaviya said.

Consumer court cases saw a similar decline, dropping from 4,936 on April 1, 2024, to 2,646 by March 31, 2026.

Earlier this month, the Ministry rolled out upgraded versions of the Shram Suvidha and Samadhan portals. The new systems are designed to improve compliance with labour laws and strengthen grievance redressal, while handling larger volumes of data and user traffic more efficiently.
