The GATE 2026 exam is set to kick off on February 7, with IIT Guwahati managing the national-level Computer-Based Test. If you’re registered, make sure to download your admit card from gate2026.iitg.ac.in well in advance.
As the test date approaches, ensure to carefully read all the instructions to avoid any last-minute issues on the test day.
GATE 2026 exam day instructions
It is recommended to reach the allocated centre 60-90 minutes prior to your reported time on the admit card. The entry will be subject to biometric verification and document checks, and after the gates are closed, it is unlikely that the candidates will be allowed to enter.
Candidates will be provided with rough sheets at the test centre. Before you begin, ensure to write your name and registration number on each rough sheet and return them to the invigilator after completion.

A virtual calculator will be visible on the computer screen during the exam. Personal calculators or any other electronic device are strictly not allowed inside the exam hall. Candidates are advised to wear simple and comfortable clothes, as per the instructions of the invigilators. Any misconduct during the exam may result in disqualification.
Documents required on exam day
Candidates must carry the following original and valid documents to the exam centre:
A printed hard copy of the GATE 2026 admit card (A4 size, clear print)
One original photo identity proof, as used during registration, such as:
Aadhaar card
Passport
Voter ID
Driving licence
PAN card
Photocopies or digital copies of ID proofs will not be accepted.

List of prohibited items
The following items are not allowed inside the examination hall:
Mobile phones
Smartwatches
Calculators
Notes or books
Bags and study materials
Any other electronic devices
GATE 2026 exam schedule
GATE 2026 exams will be conducted in two shifts per day. The forenoon session will be conducted from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the afternoon session will be conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Candidates are advised to verify their admit card for the date, shift, and test centre of the exam.
