It is a first-of-its-kind university that delivers specialised, practice-orientated, academic programmes in the field of medical technology and innovation. The institute is set to become operational inside India’s biggest medical device manufacturing hub, Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ), Vizag, soon.

The institute has everything already in place – infrastructure, academic staff, and the course curriculum. It is awaiting some routine clearances from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to commence admissions from the forthcoming academic year. The courses on offer include postgraduate (M.Tech, MBA) and PhD programmes in medical technology, bioengineering, healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship and medical device quality and regulatory affairs. The university offers students the med-tech development, manufacturing and marketing ecosystem of the AMTZ med-tech park that forms part of the university campus. “It’s the world’s first university for medical technology and innovation,” claims Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO, AMTZ.

What is special about the campus?

The Park’s Kalam Institute of Health Technology is the only WHO Collaborating Centre on Health Innovation in the world. Recently, the WHO mentioned Kalam Institute will proceed to be a collaborating centre for another four years (2026-2030) after its current four-year term ends. The AMTZ also aims to develop the country’s medical innovation and assistive technology ecosystem by founding a Paralympic Sports Academy, along with advanced centres for precision engineering, medical robotics, assistive devices, and medical batteries.
