ABVP MeDeVision on Monday submitted a deputation to the principal of Medical College Kolkata, raising a series of concerns related to hostel security, student welfare and the overall campus atmosphere.
The delegation was led by MEDEVISON State Convenor Manas Barman and ABVP MeDeVision Kolkata Mahanagar Convenor Pulastyo Chattopadhyay. During the meeting, members of the student organisation urged the college administration to take immediate measures to strengthen safety mechanisms and ensure a secure environment for students.
The delegation emphasised that a medical college should remain a space dedicated to learning, professional growth and academic excellence, free from fear, intimidation and unlawful activities.
Demand for a completely drug-free campus
One of the primary issues highlighted by ABVP MeDeVision was the alleged presence and consumption of intoxicating substances within the campus and hostel premises.
The organisation called for a strict zero-tolerance policy against drug use and circulation, urging authorities to take firm action against any individual found violating campus regulations. According to the delegation, the presence of such activities not only affects student welfare but also undermines the academic environment expected in a premier medical institution.
ABVP MeDeVision sought stronger monitoring systems and preventive measures to ensure that the campus remains free from narcotics and related activities.

Call for transparency in hostel administration
The student body also demanded a transparent and rule-based hostel allotment system. The delegation stressed that accommodation should be allocated fairly and in accordance with institutional guidelines, ensuring equal opportunities for all eligible students.
ABVP MeDeVision further raised concerns regarding what it described as a prevailing culture of intimidation and threats allegedly created by certain politically motivated hostel groups. The organisation urged the administration to ensure that hostels remain safe and neutral spaces where students can live and study without pressure or harassment.
According to the delegation, hostel administration must function solely based on established rules and student welfare.
