Actor Varun Dhawan’s team has issued a clarification after Mumbai Metro authorities warned him over a video showing him doing pull-ups by hanging from grab handles inside a metro coach. The team stated that “no fine or penalty has been imposed” on the actor and that the matter has been resolved.

The warning was issued after the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) flagged safety concerns, stating that such actions are punishable under metro rules.

Team says no fine, post taken down

In an official statement released on Tuesday, Varun Dhawan’s team clarified, “We wish to clarify that no fine or penalty of any kind has been issued to Varun.”

The statement also confirmed that the post shared earlier by the Mumbai Metro authorities has since been taken down.

“The earlier post by the authorities has been taken down, and we appreciate their cooperation in clearing up this misunderstanding. Varun has the utmost respect for the city's rules and the Metro department’s efforts. We are happy to confirm that there are no pending issues, and we thank the media for sharing this accurate update,” the statement added.

Mumbai Metro Authority’s statement

The Mumbai Metro authorities had earlier highlighted safety risks associated with the act. Sharing the video, MMMOCL wrote, “This video should have come with a disclaimer like the ones in your action movies, @Varun_dvn- Do Not Try This On Maha Mumbai Metro.”

In another post, the authority cautioned commuters by saying, “Don't do this on Maha Mumbai Metro.” It clearly explained that grab handles inside metro coaches are meant only for support and not for hanging, warning that such behaviour could endanger passengers and damage public property.

MMMOCL further stated that acts causing nuisance or damage are punishable under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, with penalties or even imprisonment depending on the severity. Urging responsible behaviour, it added, “So folks, hang out, but don't hang in there. Travel responsibly on Maha Mumbai Metro.”

Following the posts, several social media users demanded strict action against the actor. One user commented, “Instead of hollow threats, @MMMOCL_Official, it would have been great if you had taken Action as per all the Acts that you have listed. It would have set a perfect example.”

Varun Dhawan was recently seen in the film Border 2, which released in theatres on January 23. The film is inspired by the 1971 India-Pakistan War and stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh, with Anurag Singh as director.
