The Delhi Police have arrested a commercial cab driver following the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of an eleven-year-old girl in south Delhi. The victim, who was living without permanent shelter, was taken early Monday morning while sleeping alongside her family on a pavement in the Mehrauli area. The subsequent investigation quickly led to the apprehension of the suspect after law enforcement tracked his movements across the National Capital Region.
The early morning abduction
According to the Hindustan Times, the kidnapping occurred around five in the morning on Monday. The suspect took advantage of the early morning hours to grab the minor from the roadside before driving her to an isolated location. Initial forensic assessments have confirmed that the young girl faced severe sexual assault at this secluded spot before the situation escalated. The victim's parents grew alarmed at her sudden absence and alerted local authorities around seven in the morning, prompting an immediate police mobilisation.

A panicked flight from law enforcement
Hindustan Times noted that the investigators suspect that the driver initially intended to return the child to her family after the assault. However, as he drove back toward the Mehrauli area, he spotted an increased police presence and checkpoint operations set up by patrolling teams. Panicking at the sight of the authorities, the driver changed his route and fled further away with the minor still inside his vehicle. He then drove deep into a forested patch within Mehrauli, where he choked the young girl to death to eliminate the witness.
CCTV tracking and arrest
According to the Hindustan Times, the breakthrough in the case came through a comprehensive analysis of digital surveillance. Multiple police teams scanned local closed-circuit television cameras, eventually identifying the victim in the company of the accused. By Monday night, tracking efforts proved successful, and the cab driver was taken into custody. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to both the kidnapping and the subsequent murder, directing authorities to the Faridabad to Gurugram road where he had discarded the body. The remains have been sent for a formal post-mortem examination to officially establish the final medical findings.
