A routine drive through Gurugram turned violent for a Delhi resident after two young men allegedly chased him for nearly a kilometre, smashed his car windows and assaulted him in broad daylight over a lane dispute.

The incident took place on Sohna Road and has once again raised concerns over growing instances of aggressive driving and unchecked road rage in the National Capital Region.

Police arrested the two accused, both 22-year-old BBA graduates, within hours of the incident and seized the Mahindra Scorpio-N allegedly used during the attack.

Minor traffic dispute escalated into violent chase

According to police, the 45-year-old victim, a resident of CR Park in Delhi, was travelling towards Udyog Vihar after completing personal work in Gurugram.

Hindustan Times mentioned that the accused, residents of Vipul World in Sector 48, were allegedly driving recklessly and changing lanes frequently while attempting to overtake vehicles.

Police said the confrontation began when the victim could not immediately make way for their speeding SUV due to heavy traffic congestion.

Repeated honking soon led to a verbal altercation between both parties.

Instead of moving on, the duo allegedly pursued the victim for almost a kilometre before intercepting his car.

Attack captured on camera, victim suffered injuries

According to the Hindustan Times, investigators said that the accused got out of their SUV carrying a heavy stick and began smashing the windows of the victim's vehicle.

They allegedly shattered all the glasses before attacking the victim through the driver's side window.

The victim sustained a shoulder injury after being hit with the stick and suffered cuts near his eyes and face from flying glass fragments.

Despite being injured, he managed to record parts of the incident on his phone. The video, which clearly captured the suspects and the vehicle registration number, later circulated widely on social media.

The victim also alerted the police control room immediately after the attackers fled.

Police arrest accused within hours

Gurugram Police said swift action led to the arrest of both suspects within a few hours of the complaint being lodged.

The authorities also recovered the black Mahindra Scorpio-N bearing a fancy registration number allegedly used in the crime.

An FIR has been registered at Gurugram Sadar police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to voluntarily causing hurt, rash driving, criminal intimidation and causing property damage.

Police officials said the investigation is continuing, while the incident has once again spotlighted the increasing frequency of road rage cases in Gurugram, where seemingly minor disagreements are rapidly escalating into violent confrontations.
