Visakhapatnam Police have arrested an engineer for allegedly stealing money, gold, silver, scooters, bikes and other valuables from several homes. His BMW in the garage and branded clothes neatly stacked in the wardrobe gave no hint of trouble. LinkedIn profile showed him as a software engineer at a reputed company, with an M.Tech degree to his name. Yet this well-educated man now stands accused of theft in more than 30 houses.

It has been learned that the accused is Achhi Mahesh Reddy alias Sunny, aged 27. Police claim that the software engineer has committed thefts in at least 27 to 30 houses across Andhra Pradesh. He has been accused of stealing jewellery worth approximately ₹24.66 lakh, more than 1,084 grams of gold, over 6,300 grams of silver, and ₹40,500 in cash.

Police investigation and past record

Police investigation revealed that Sunny entered the world of crime driven by his desire for a comfortable and luxurious life. He worked at a reputed IT company in Hyderabad. Despite earning a high salary, his desires were not fulfilled. As a result, he allegedly worked during the day and committed thefts at night. Over time, his wealth increased due to repeated thefts, and he eventually quit his job to ensure a steady income through crime.

Police launched an investigation following a rise in theft incidents in the state, which led to Sunny’s arrest. Investigators said the accused recently bought a BMW car by selling stolen jewellery. Items worth ₹15.63 lakh have been recovered from his house, including 699 grams of gold ornaments and 3.8 kg of silver ornaments.
