The Sasaram Municipal Corporation in Bihar has tasked the teachers with a list of new duties. Earlier, teachers were appointed as Booth Level Officers or BLOs for SIR work. They also had to handle census-related data collection. However, now their task will require them to count stray dogs.
Recently, a directive has been issued by the Sasaram Municipal Corporation in Bihar's Rohtas district. It states that in every school within the Sasaram Municipal Corporation area, one teacher must be appointed as a nodal officer. Their job will be to collect information about stray dogs around the school premises.
The directive states that nodal officers will identify how many stray dogs are present within and around the school premises. Additionally, they will also provide suggestions on their physical condition and how their numbers can be controlled.

Sasaram Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bikash Kumar said this directive has been issued following government guidelines. Information has been sought from nodal officers. Based on the information about stray dogs provided by them, a framework will be prepared on how they can be controlled.
However, the issuance of this directive has sparked controversy in teacher circles. Teachers are already involved in various tasks besides teaching. The assignment of teachers to non-teaching duties once again is increasing resentment among teachers.
