Intense tremors woke residents of Assam from their sleep. On Monday morning, tremors were felt across various parts of northeastern India, including Assam. The magnitude of the tremors was 5.1 on the Richter scale. In panic, residents in many areas left their homes and came outside. However, no casualties have been reported so far due to the earthquake.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the tremors were felt at 4:17 AM on Monday. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Assam's Morigaon district.
The earthquake's epicentre was located approximately 50 kilometres deep underground, it has been learned.

Apart from Morigaon, the tremors lasted for several seconds across extensive areas, including Guwahati, Nagaon, and central Assam. According to experts, the epicentre of this earthquake was in the highly sensitive 'Kopili fault line' area. Previously, many major earthquakes have occurred in this region.
It is noteworthy that northeastern India and Assam are the country's most vulnerable earthquake-prone areas. No major damage has been reported so far due to the earthquake. However, the district administration and disaster management forces are monitoring the entire situation.
