The structure, located on Western Marg, accommodated a coaching institute along with several cafes and office spaces. Officials said construction work was reportedly in progress on the upper floor when the building suddenly gave way.
The collapse reduced the structure to a heap of rubble within moments, raising concerns that several people could have been trapped beneath the debris. Part of the debris also fell onto a nearby tin-shed canteen that is commonly visited by medical entrance exam aspirants.
