Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was injured on Sunday morning after allegedly being hit on the head by a stone during a protest march to Chanditala Police Station in Hooghly district.
According to TMC leaders, Banerjee had gone to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence, per a report by ANI.
Protest turns tense outside police station
Party leaders alleged that black flags were shown to Kalyan Banerjee and slogans of “chor chor” were raised during the protest. Banerjee claimed stones were thrown from a distance, one of which struck him on the head, causing him to collapse.

The TMC MP accused BJP workers of being behind the attack, though the BJP denied the allegations. After the incident, Kalyan Banerjee accused the police of failing to protect him during the protest.

Political tensions rise after Sonarpur incident
The protest was linked to Saturday’s violence in Sonarpur, where Abhishek Banerjee faced protests while visiting the family of a TMC worker allegedly killed in post-poll violence.

As Abhishek entered the area, protesters allegedly hurled shoes, eggs and stones at him while shouting slogans. Amid the chaos, he was seen wearing a helmet for protection, though his clothes were reportedly torn during the scuffle.
Police and central forces later escorted him from the area. TMC has alleged that the attack on Abhishek Banerjee was planned by the BJP.
