Putin to attend BRICS Summit in New Delhi
Yuri Ushakov has stated that Putin will participate in the upcoming BRICS Summit in the national capital later this year. The summit is expected to bring together leaders of the BRICS nations to discuss major global political and economic issues, as per News18 reports.
This visit will be Putin’s second trip to India within a year. He had earlier travelled to India in December for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
India-Russia diplomatic engagements continue
The planned visit comes soon after Russian Foreign minister Sergey Lavrov visited New Delhi for the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting earlier this month. During his trip, Lavrov also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed a broad bilateral agenda, according to News 18.
India and Russia have continued regular diplomatic interactions through bilateral summits and multilateral forums such as BRICS, despite changing global alignments and international tensions. The BRICS grouping currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newly added member countries.
