American Airlines has announced the cancellation and postponement of two international routes, with services now not expected to resume before 2027. The decision comes as several global carriers continue to adjust operations due to geopolitical tensions and shifting passenger demand.
The airline said that affected passengers will be eligible for refunds or alternative booking options. The move impacts routes linked to Doha and Tel Aviv, both of which have seen disruptions following instability in the region.
Flights delayed until 2027
According to reports, American Airlines has pushed back the restart of flights to Doha, Qatar, and Tel Aviv, Israel. The airline had earlier planned to resume the services sooner, but the routes will now remain suspended until at least 2027.
The airline has also permanently dropped one of the planned routes as part of its revised international schedule. While the company has not publicly detailed every operational reason behind the decision, ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East has affected several carriers operating in the region.
Passengers offered refunds and rebooking options
American Airlines said passengers impacted by the route cancellations can seek refunds or make alternate travel arrangements. Customers whose bookings are affected are expected to receive updates directly from the airline.
The airline states, “If your flight is cancelled or a delay causes you to miss your connection, we'll rebook you on the next flight with available seats", as per AOL reports.
The airline has advised travellers to regularly check their booking details and flight status through its website and mobile application for the latest updates.
Middle East tensions continue to impact airlines
Airlines across the world have repeatedly altered flight schedules due to security concerns and restricted airspace linked to the conflict in the Middle East. Several routes passing through or near the region have faced delays, diversions and temporary suspensions in recent months.
The situation has led carriers to reassess long-haul operations and passenger demand patterns. Aviation analysts say airlines are prioritising operational safety and route viability while monitoring developments in the region.
