Traffic movement slowed across several parts of Delhi on Monday as summit security rehearsals at Bharat Mandapam led to diversions, road restrictions and congestion in key parts of the national capital. Commuters travelling through central Delhi reported long delays during peak office hours as traffic police implemented special arrangements ahead of upcoming high-profile international events.

According to News18 reports, the rehearsals were linked to preparations for major international summits scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam later this month. Security convoy drills between hotels, the airport and the summit venue reportedly caused intermittent traffic stoppages across important routes in Lutyens’ Delhi and nearby arterial roads.

Which areas witnessed heavy congestion

Several commuters experienced traffic snarls on roads connecting east and west Delhi, while central stretches saw slow-moving traffic due to diversions and temporary restrictions. Authorities reportedly redirected vehicles through peripheral routes to ease pressure around high-security zones.

Delhi Traffic Police has prepared an extensive traffic management plan to avoid a repeat of the heavy congestion witnessed during earlier summit events in the city. Reports stated that nearly 22 traffic diversions are expected to be implemented during the summit period as part of security arrangements.

As per the News18 report, officials are also coordinating with navigation platforms such as Google Maps and MapmyIndia so commuters can receive alternate routes during VIP movement and road closures.

Security preparations intensify ahead of summits

The upcoming events are expected to bring foreign delegates, ministers and senior officials from multiple countries to Delhi, leading to heightened security measures across the city. Around 4,000 traffic police personnel are likely to be deployed along with local police and other security teams during the summit period.

The reports also stated that the authorities are planning designated pick-up and drop-off zones near Bharat Mandapam to manage transport more efficiently. Reports suggested that DTC shuttle buses may operate from public access gates during the events to reduce commuter inconvenience.

Traffic officials have advised commuters to plan journeys, use public transport whenever possible and follow live traffic updates to avoid delays in congestion-prone areas.
