The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday announced plans to launch a dedicated website to connect protesters facing legal action with lawyers willing to provide assistance. Independent Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal also pledged ₹1 crore towards a legal aid fund, urging lawyers and citizens across the country to contribute.

Speaking at a press conference alongside CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, Sibal said the platform would document cases involving protesters and help them access legal support.
Website to connect protesters with legal assistance
According to Sibal in the press conference, has proposed portal will maintain records of legal action taken against protesters and identify advocates ready to represent them.
“This CJP will create a framework to track what happened at which place, which student or protester was affected, and what action has been taken against them,” Sibal said.
He added that lawyers willing to offer legal assistance would be able to register on the website by providing their names, locations and the type of legal support they can offer.
Sibal also announced an initial contribution of ₹1 crore towards the legal aid initiative and appealed to lawyers across India to support the fund.
“I will contribute ₹1 crore and urge lawyers across India and others to also contribute to this fund so that wherever the law is misused and false cases are filed against peaceful protesters, we will stand with them,” he said.
Opposition raises concerns over police action
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that several students had been detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police following the Prayagraj protest, despite assurances that no action would be taken against participants.
Questioning the alleged detentions, Yadav asked on whose instructions the police had acted and demanded the immediate release of the students. He also called for strict action against officials responsible and urged the Supreme Court to take cognisance of the matter.

The Congress also condemned the alleged police action and offered legal assistance to students who had received legal notices, been detained, summoned for questioning or had their social media posts removed. The party said affected students could contact its legal support network for assistance.
CJP warns of fresh protests
Earlier in the day, CJP alleged that authorities had breached an agreement by taking action against protesters in Bihar, West Bengal and Delhi.
In a statement, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka claimed that several protesters and volunteers had been detained and demanded the immediate withdrawal of FIRs, release of detained students and a written assurance that no further legal action would be initiated.
The organisation warned that it would resume protests if its demands were not met by Tuesday.
