On Friday, April 17, the vote count for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) moved sharply in Tipra Motha’s favor, with the BJP falling behind in the tribal council contest. As the count progressed, the gap widened. Final reports from multiple outlets said Tipra Motha finished with 24 of the 28 elected seats, while the BJP was reduced to four.
Hindustan Times said the two parties, despite being allies in the state, fought each other in the council election, and Tripura-based reporting described the result as a sweeping verdict in the tribal belt.
Counting trends turned into a rout
Polling for the council was held on April 12 and recorded a turnout of more than 83 percent. The counting process was peaceful, and tight security had been put in place across counting centers while trends continued to favor Tipra Motha. The broadcaster also noted that, in the early stages, the BJP was ahead in five seats before the final picture hardened against it.

A major setback to the BJP
The TTAADC election is closely watched in Tripura because it shapes political momentum in the state’s tribal regions. By the end of counting, the BJP’s tally had lagged far behind Tipra Motha’s, confirming the latter’s dominance in the council election.
