Even government employees could face salary deductions if they fail to provide proper care for their elderly parents. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced this on Monday, issuing a clear warning that the rule will be implemented in the state very soon.

Salary deduction for neglecting elderly parents

According to the proposed law, if a government employee does not take adequate care of their parents, 10 per cent of their salary will be directly deducted. This amount will be regularly transferred to the parents’ bank account. The government has taken this step to strengthen social security for senior citizens.

The Chief Minister also stated that if parents file complaints against their children regarding neglect, the police and administration have been instructed to treat such cases with the utmost seriousness.

Welfare initiatives for elderly, specially-abled and transgender persons

The Telangana government has announced several humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting senior citizens and persons with special needs. Revanth Reddy said that special day-care centres will be established for the elderly. Alongside this, the distribution of free motorised cycles, battery-operated wheelchairs, laptops, hearing aids and mobile phones for the specially-abled persons has already begun.

The state government has allocated approximately ₹50 crore for this project. It also plans to introduce a modern health policy for the general public in the 2026–27 fiscal year budget.

The Chief Minister further announced that specially-abled persons who get married will receive financial assistance of ₹2 lakh from the state government. In addition, special quota arrangements will be made for them in education and employment.

To ensure transgender persons can directly present their demands to the administration, they will be nominated as members of municipal corporations. Revanth Reddy stated that the government’s primary objective across all sectors is to bring marginalised communities into the mainstream from a humanitarian perspective.
