Delhi sees pleasant start to day; IMD predicts rain, thunderstorms across NCR this week

A brief spell of cool, pleasant weather greets Delhi before rain and thunderstorms are set to shake up the week ahead across NCR.

Delhi woke up to a relatively cool and comfortable morning on Wednesday, offering a brief pause from the rising March heat. The minimum temperature has settled at 16 degrees Celsius, and the weather is also expected to see a spell of rain and thunderstorms over the National Capital Region (NCR) in the coming days, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum temperature for the day is also expected to touch almost 30 degrees Celsius, with a partly cloudy sky throughout the day.

Are rain and thunderstorms expected this week?

According to the IMD, the weather is likely to remain unsettled over Delhi for the rest of the week. On March 25, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy, with the temperature ranging between 17 and 33 degrees Celsius.

However, a change is also expected from March 26, when the city is likely to witness a spell of thunderstorms along with rain. The temperature on that day is likely to range between 18 and 34 degrees Celsius. The same is also expected for March 27, when the city is likely to witness a spell of thunderstorms, with the temperature ranging between 17 and 32 degrees Celsius.

On March 28, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy once again, with a temperature range of 18-33 degrees Celsius. On March 29, rain and thunderstorms are expected once again, with a temperature range of 19-30 degrees Celsius. On March 30, the sky is expected to be generally cloudy, with a temperature range of 18-30 degrees Celsius.

IMD has not issued any weather warnings for this period.

Temperature trends across key stations

On Tuesday, Delhi registered a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, slightly above normal for this time of the year. Among other stations, Ridge registered the highest maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Ayanagar with 32 degrees Celsius.

Lodhi Road registered a temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius, while Palam registered the lowest temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures were also slightly different at different locations. Lodhi Road was the coldest, with a temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius, while Palam registered the highest minimum temperature of 17.4 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall activities continued to remain low. Ridge recorded a rainfall of 2 mm, while Ayanagar recorded a rainfall of 0.8 mm. Trace rainfall was recorded at Safdarjung and Lodhi Road, while no rainfall was recorded at Palam.

After March 27, conditions are expected to gradually stabilise. Skies are expected to become partly cloudy, and no further rainfall is anticipated. This is a transition to normal late-March weather.
