Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on Tuesday, a significant development for road connectivity between New Delhi and Uttarakhand.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, also known as the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, will be fully operational from today. PM Narendra Modi is also slated to visit UP's Saharanpur to review the Wildlife Corridor on the elevated section of the corridor, before performing Pooja at Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple near Dehradun.

The ₹12,000 crore expressway will help save commuting time between New Delhi and Dehradun by reducing it from six hours to less than two-and-a-half hours.
Travel time and distance are cut down
The 210-213 kilometre expressway will take you just about two-and-a-half hours to commute between Delhi and Dehradun.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway starts from Akshardham Temple in Delhi and ends in Dehradun, passing through some districts of Uttar Pradesh like Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project has been developed with an investment of approximately ₹12,000 crore.
What are the major characteristics of the new project?
Several characteristics of modern infrastructure have been incorporated into the construction of this expressway.
Wildlife corridor within the Rajaji National Park for the secure migration of animals. Interchanges, underpasses, and service roads ensure safe, reliable, and faster travel experiences. Modern traffic control mechanisms add to the positives.

Environment-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting have also been reportedly incorporated in this project.
Improved connectivity
It is envisaged that this highway will provide improved connectivity and reduce congestion along other roadways linking Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
