Boiler blast at Vedanta Limited plant in Chhattisgarh kills 9, injures 15; probe underway

A big blast in the thermal power plant in Sakti district on Tuesday killed at least nine workers and injured nearly 15 others, creating a devastating industrial disaster that jolted Chhattisgarh., reported News 18.

Terror spread throughout the facility as the event happened amid regular activities. Rescue operations started immediately, as rescue workers raced to the scene. While giving medical care to the victims, authorities have started looking into what caused the burst.

Vedanta plant blast

The incident happened at a Vedanta Limited power plant in the Singhitarai locality, according to police officials. According to initial investigations, the blast may have started in a heating tube in the afternoon and had a major effect on a building.

Per News 18, Prafull Thakur, Superintendent of Police, Sakti district, said, “Nine people died and 15 were injured in a boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Singhi Tarai area of Sakti district. The injured have been taken to the hospital in Raigarh."

Police and municipal authorities arrived on the location right after the blast and started rescue missions. Workers with injuries were quickly taken to nearby Raigarh hospitals for medical treatment. Although checking that the injured have every medical treatment they require, authorities are keeping a careful eye on their conditions.

The injured have been admitted to local hospitals for treatment, the officer stated.

PM offers compensation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sorrow and offered sympathy to the families of the victims after the terrible event. He also said that those harmed will receive financial support.

Per News 18, the PM said, “The mishap at a power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, is tragic. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is assisting those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000."

However, the exact reason for the boiler malfunction is being looked into by the authorities. As authorities seek to stop similar events in the future, safety protocols and industrial operations are bound to be examined.
