Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in New Delhi on Sunday night to review the fast-changing situation in West Asia and its possible impact on India, government sources said.
The meeting is expected to take place after the prime minister returns to the capital following a two-day tour of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as reported by The Print.
The CCS is the country’s highest decision-making body on security and strategic matters. Apart from the prime minister, its members include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Officials said the discussions are likely to focus on the safety of Indian nationals in the region, disruption of international flight services and the broader security implications of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Safety of Indians and air travel disruption likely to be discussed
As per The Print report, sources said the government is closely monitoring the situation, particularly the safety of Indian citizens living in West Asia as tensions escalate in the region.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has already activated helplines through Indian missions across several countries and is maintaining contact with Indian nationals.
The airspace across parts of West Asia has been affected due to the military escalation, forcing several airlines to suspend or reroute flights. As a result, hundreds of Indian travellers have been stranded at major transit hubs such as Dubai, with many appealing on social media for assistance.
Government estimates indicate that about 10,000 Indians live, work or study in Iran, while over 40,000 Indian citizens reside in Israel. Across the broader Gulf and West Asia region, the Indian diaspora is estimated to be around nine million.
India has carried out large-scale evacuations during earlier conflicts in the region, rescuing thousands of nationals from war zones and crisis-hit areas.

Strait of Hormuz closure may also come up
The meeting is also expected to assess the implications of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route used for global oil shipments and commercial shipping.
The waterway is a crucial corridor for energy supplies to India, and any disruption could affect crude oil shipments and trade flows.
Officials said the CCS will review developments in the region and consider possible responses if the situation worsens.
