Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a joint inspection of Vasudev Ghat and Yamuna Bazaar Ghat to assess ongoing river rejuvenation and infrastructure work along the Yamuna. The LG emphasised that challenges like pollution, flooding and water scarcity must be tackled in mission mode, while the CM highlighted that the Yamuna clean-up has received the largest share in Delhi’s Green Budget.

Focus on floodplain and biodiversity restoration

Officials have been directed to strengthen riverbank infrastructure, sanitation, greenways, wetlands and biodiversity zones to ensure long-term ecological sustainability. Developed sites such as Asita East Riverfront, Baansera and Yamuna Biodiversity Park were cited as successful examples that could be replicated across other underdeveloped ghats.

Time-bound plan for entire floodplain stretch

The LG instructed the Delhi Development Authority to rejuvenate the Yamuna floodplain from Palla to Kalindi Kunj within fixed timelines, ensuring coordinated action with agencies like the Delhi Jal Board and MCD. The CM called for a focused strategy covering desilting, improving water flow and addressing waterlogging hotspots, alongside the adoption of global best practices through expert collaboration.
