Chennai Super Kings suffered a huge blow to their IPL 2026 playoff hopes after losing to Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in Lucknow. Mitchell Marsh played a stunning innings and completely dominated the CSK bowling attack.
Batting first, CSK did not have the best start as they lost early wickets during the Powerplay. However, Kartik Sharma rebuilt the innings with a solid knock of 71 runs. Dewald Brevis added quick runs in the middle overs, while Shivam Dube finished strongly in the death overs to help Chennai post 187/5 in 20 overs.
Mitchell Marsh destroys the CSK attack
Lucknow Super Giants came out aggressively during the chase, with Mitchell Marsh taking complete control from the start. He attacked the bowlers fearlessly and reached his half-century at a rapid pace. LSG scored 86 runs in the Powerplay without losing a wicket, putting Chennai under massive pressure.

Marsh smashed 90 runs off just 38 balls, hitting nine fours and seven sixes. CSK bowlers struggled badly with their line and length, and Marsh punished almost every loose delivery. His aggressive batting took the match away from Chennai very early in the chase.
Nicholas Pooran finishes the chase
After Marsh was dismissed, Nicholas Pooran made sure there were no problems for Lucknow in the final stages. The left-handed batter attacked immediately and hit four consecutive sixes to finish the match in style.

Lucknow Super Giants chased down the target comfortably, reaching 188/3 with 20 balls remaining. The win strengthened LSG’s position in the points table, while CSK’s playoff chances suffered another major setback.
