Henry Island is a calm, lesser-known retreat in South Bengal, surrounded by lush greenery and far removed from the usual tourist rush. It is an ideal escape for those who want to slow down and stay close to nature.
Although the island does not have a sea beach, its quiet rivers, dense forests and peaceful surroundings near the Sundarbans create a soothing, almost meditative experience.
Reaching Henry Island from Kolkata is fairly simple, especially by road. Travellers can head to Namkhana by bus or car via Kakdwip. From Namkhana, a ferry or launch takes you across to Bakkhali.
From there, Henry Island is just a short ride away by auto or toto, and those who enjoy walking can even cover the distance on foot. The full journey from Kolkata usually takes around five to six hours, making it a comfortable option for a short nature break.
