Allegations of organized crime infiltrating international cricket have resurfaced, with a report linking the gang of Lawrence Bishnoi to match-fixing activities involving Canada’s team during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The findings have sparked widespread concern, especially at a time when such scandals had appeared to decline. The controversy suggests that illegal betting networks and intimidation tactics may once again be tightening their grip on the sport at an international level.

Threats and coercion within Canada set up

An investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation claims that players and officials linked to Cricket Canada were subjected to threats and pressure from members of the Bishnoi gang. The report alleges that both players and coaching staff, including Khuran Chauhan, were approached and coerced into influencing team selection and match outcomes.

Those who resisted reportedly faced intimidation, with one unnamed player claiming he received a threatening message within minutes of opposing the interference.

Restaurant meeting reveals deeper nexus

A key incident highlighted in the report dates back to July 2025 in Surrey, British Columbia, where around 25 players gathered for dinner. The meeting allegedly turned into a coercive interaction after individuals linked to the gang joined them.
