India’s women’s team saw a reshuffle in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings after a fluctuating start to their series against South Africa, with individual performances directly impacting positions.

Shafali climbs, Mandhana and Jemimah drop

Shafali Verma emerged as the biggest positive for India, jumping to sixth in the batting rankings. Her aggressive half-century in the second T20I reinforced her reputation as a high-impact opener and helped her gain valuable rating points despite India’s loss. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana slipped to fourth after failing to convert starts into substantial scores in the series so far. Her dip highlights how sensitive rankings are to consistency at the top level.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur moved up to 11th following her composed, unbeaten knock in the opening game, showing signs of regaining form. In contrast, Jemimah Rodrigues dropped to 14th after a relatively quiet run with the bat, reflecting a broader inconsistency in India’s middle order.

South Africa’s consistency is reflected in the rankings

South Africa’s strong showing in the series has translated into steady gains in the rankings. Players like Laura Wolvaardt have either held firm or improved their positions, thanks to reliable performances at the top of the order.

The visitors’ ability to deliver collectively has put India under pressure, both in match situations and in individual standings. Their batters have capitalised on key moments, which is evident in the upward movement across rankings.

With the series still ongoing, the rankings remain fluid. Every innings now carries added significance as both teams fine-tune combinations ahead of global tournaments. For India, improving consistency across the batting unit will be crucial, while South Africa will aim to maintain its momentum and translate form into long-term dominance in the shortest format.
