India have made a late change to their squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, with Suryansh Shedge earning his maiden senior team call-up. The Mumbai all-rounder has been named as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been ruled out due to injury.

Nitish Reddy sidelined by quadriceps injury

Reddy suffered a left quadriceps injury during India's recent ODI series against Afghanistan. Following medical assessment, the BCCI decided that the all-rounder would require rehabilitation and would not be available for either the Ireland or England assignments.

The setback comes at an unfortunate time for Reddy, who has established himself as a valuable seam-bowling all-rounder in India's white-ball setup. His absence leaves India without one of its key pace-bowling options in the middle order.

Reward for consistent performances

Shedge, meanwhile, receives a reward for his impressive performances over the past year. The 23-year-old was among the standout performers for India A during the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he scored 147 runs in five matches and showcased his ability to contribute in multiple roles.

A product of Mumbai cricket, Shedge has steadily built a reputation as a hard-hitting batter who can also provide useful overs with the ball. His performances in domestic cricket and the IPL attracted the attention of the national selectors, leading to his first senior India call-up.

Opportunity to impress on the international stage

The selection underlines India's focus on building depth in the all-rounder department as they continue to prepare for major white-ball tournaments in the coming years. With several young players being tested across formats, the management sees the upcoming series as an opportunity to assess emerging talent at the international level.

India will begin their white-ball tour with a two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series in July.

With Reddy sidelined, all eyes will be on Shedge, who could make his international debut during the tour and take the first step in his India career.
