The women's Premier League is going to enter its final phase as the league phase is all set to close with the match between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriors. Delhi Capitals’ way to the playoffs has become wide as the Mumbai Indians failed to win their last league match against the Gujarat Giants which helped the oranges earn the spot in the eliminator. The loss can cost heavy for the Blues, they ended the run with only six points, the same as Delhi. The Capitals will get the upper hand now as they are yet to play their last league match against the weak UP Warriorz. If they win the match, the Capitals will reach 8 points, which will mean that they will enter the second phase of the tournament for four consecutive times and the defending champions Mumbai’s road will end for this year.

GG seals the playoff spot

Gujarat Giants won the toss and chose to bat first in the important game. Mumbai bowlers stopped the giants in 167 runs. Dominant batting from captain Gardner and Georgia Wareham helped the team to reach the total. In reply, the Mumbai Indians batter failed to give a good start losing three wickets in just 37 runs. The captain of the Indian team Kaur fought back and smashed a blistering 82 runs in just 48 balls. It went into the vein as she failed to get support from the others. Just like in batting Georgia Wareham showed a great rhythm with the ball taking two wickets, leaking 26 runs and Sophie Devine bowled one maiden and also took two wickets. Throughout the innings, MI batters have failed to make a 50-run partnership and that made their journey to the playoffs complex. With that win, GG completed their league phase with 10 points in second position.

Net run rate set to play a big role

If the Delhi Capitals fail to win today’s match then three teams will end with six points as of now despite losing the last few matches, MI has a positive run rate whereas Delhi and UP both have a negative run rate. If Delhi loses its quarter-final, then calculators will play a key role in doing the mathematics.
