The All India Football Federation has issued a firm directive mandating that all Indian Football League matches be played under floodlights from April 19, with a standard 6:30 pm IST kick-off. The federation described the requirement as "non-negotiable", making it compulsory for clubs to ensure fully operational floodlight systems at their home venues.
The decision, however, has come midway through the season, creating logistical challenges for several teams. Clubs unable to meet the requirement have been asked to arrange alternate venues, failing which they risk a penalty of ₹9 lakh per match. The move is aimed at standardising match timings and improving broadcast and spectator experience, but its timing has drawn criticism.
Rajasthan United face venue uncertainty
Rajasthan United FC have been among the worst affected by the directive. Currently second in the standings, the club does not have adequate floodlight facilities at its home ground, putting its remaining fixtures in jeopardy.
Club officials are set to meet state government authorities to explore solutions, including upgrading infrastructure or securing temporary permissions. If those efforts fail, Rajasthan United may request the AIFF to allow earlier kick-offs or shift their home matches to alternative venues such as those used by Namdhari FC or Dempo SC. The situation has added uncertainty at a crucial stage of the competition.

Strong form overshadowed by off-field challenges
Despite the off-field turmoil, Rajasthan United have enjoyed an impressive campaign. The team has won four of its five home matches, collecting 13 out of a possible 15 points, and remains unbeaten at home alongside Sreenidi Deccan FC and Dempo. With 14 points from seven matches, they sit second in the table, just two points behind Diamond Harbour Football Club.

However, their strong on-field performance risks being overshadowed by administrative challenges. The floodlight mandate highlights broader infrastructure gaps in Indian football and raises questions about the balance between regulatory standards and practical implementation during an active season.
